The exiled Duchess had retired from the profession in 2017 - but is now set for a comeback

Meghan Markle has made a shocking return to acting after joining the cast of an upcoming Hollywood movie.

The Duchess is set to star in Close Personal Friends alongside Brie Larson and Lily Collins.

Meghan announced her retirement from acting eight years ago, having earned fame in the popular TV series Suits.

She was on set today in Pasadena, Los Angeles, playing herself in the Amazon MGM Studios production, as revealed by The Sun.

A studio source said: "This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves.

"She has been swamped with offers but this one felt right.

"It is Meghan's way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set.

"Everyone involved is super-excited, and have been sworn to secrecy about her involvement."

The source said that Prince Harry is "really supportive" of the move and "quite simply wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy".

The film does not yet have a release date, but it features two couples: one famous and one not.

Meghan previously appeared in movies Remember Me and Horrible Bosses, but her claim to fame came from playing Rachel Zane in Suits.

She shared that she was quitting in 2017, just before her engagement to Harry.

In his controversial memoir Spare, the Duke admitted to watching her acting. "I'd witnessed her and a cast mate mauling each other in some sort of office conference room," he said.

"It would take electric shock therapy to get those images out of my head."

Last summer, the duchess admitted that she "sometimes" missed acting in a discussion on a podcast.
