The Beatles icon's son, 63, shared news of his diagnosis on social media

John Lennon's son Julian has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with a worrying condition, which has prompted him to issue a warning to fans.

The 63-year-old musician shared he is suffering from coronary heart disease and a pre-diabetic condition, posting the news on Facebook on Wednesday.

Best known for his 1984 hit Too Late For Goodbyes, he posted a heartfelt message as he revealed the recent diagnosis.

He wrote: "After being diagnosed with coronary heart disease and a pre-diabetic, I urge you all to get checked out sooner rather than later."

The son of Beatles legend Mr Lennon, who himself inspired the iconic track Hey Jude, received an outpouring of support from fans, with his post attracting more than 6,000 reactions and over 100 comments from well-wishers.

Mr Lennon stressed that health problems can remain hidden even when individuals maintain active lifestyles and consume nutritious food.

"You never know what hidden health issues you may have, even after exercising and eating as much good/healthy food as possible. Nip it in the bud! As they say..." he cautioned his followers.

He implored his audience to seek medical examinations promptly rather than delaying.

"Please get checked out, before you're checked out," Mr Lennon urged.

Despite the concerning diagnoses, Mr Lennon expressed hope about his prognosis, noting that early detection has given him the opportunity to address the conditions before they progress further.

"Even with these ailments, I've managed to catch them early enough to be able to reverse some of the damage and will hopefully be able to live a healthy long life," he shared.

The musician also took time to acknowledge the medical professionals who have supported him through this challenging period.

"And last but not least, thanks to all the Doctors who have helped and guided me on this new journey so far...Truly x," he added in his Facebook message. (sic)

Worried fans flooded the post with responses, with one writing: "Dude, wish I could give you a hug, as creepy as that might sound.

"Glad you have good medical advice and your own intelligence to back you up. I foolishly let pre-diabetes turn into diabetes, foolish. Glad you're on top of it!"

A second advised: "Monitor your blood glucose level regularly. Diabetes can change quickly. I work as a Diabetes Education nurse in a hospital system. People end up in our ICU’s all the time from elevated bg levels."

Another shared: "It’s great that you’re staying on top of things! I had been borderline diabetic for years.

"A few months ago during my semi annual check up, I finally 'crossed the border.' My doctor put me on Metformin, & now I’m back in the normal range!"

"With proper diet and taking a 15-20-minute walk after each meal helped control my parents' (pre-)diabetes. Everyone should do it," another urged.

One more commented: "Second chances can mean so much! Hold on to life with both hands and embrace it every day, you are 'a day dream believer.'" (sic)

It's not the first time Mr Lennon has faced serious health concerns.

In 2020, he underwent emergency surgery to remove a cancerous growth from his head after a dermatologist discovered a malignant mole during a routine visit.

At the time, he described feeling as though he might "be gone, at any given moment" and admitted he was "still shaking inside" following the procedure.

That health scare came during what he described as a particularly difficult period, following the death of his mother, Cynthia, in April 2015.

She passed away aged 75 at her Spanish home after battling cancer.

Mr Lennon's father, the legendary Beatles frontman, was shot and killed in New York in 1980 at the age of 40. John and Cynthia were married from 1962 to 1968.
