The Court Circular subsequently recorded the monarch's visit

King Charles surprised residents of a small Scottish village on Tuesday when he arrived unannounced at a local newsagents' and whisky shop.

The 77-year-old monarch travelled to Aboyne, situated approximately half an hour's drive from Balmoral Castle, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of George Strachan Limited.

During his visit, the King shared with locals that he had frequented the establishment as a child whilst staying at the nearby royal residence.

The engagement marked his first public outing since the Easter Sunday service at Windsor on April 5.

Villagers were taken aback by the unexpected royal appearance, with one resident telling the Press and Journal: "It all happened so fast.

“We were out walking the dog when we heard all these sirens.

“Next thing we knew, four police cars were outside on Ballater Road. I was shocked."

Another local observed that the monarch had seemed "delighted" to be visiting the area.

The Black Faced Sheep, an independent café in the village, praised the "exciting visit" through a post on social media.

The Court Circular subsequently recorded that the King visited George Strachan Limited of Royal Deeside on Main Street to mark its centenary.

Lady Saltoun received the King upon his arrival at the premises.

The monarch spent time meeting members of the Strachan family who run the business, as well as shop staff.

The establishment holds a royal warrant, reflecting its longstanding connection to the Royal Family.

A significant police presence had gathered on the streets prior to the unannounced visit.
