The Princess Royal undertook 474 royal engagements last year

King Charles is helping Princess Anne overcome feelings of being "underappreciated" in the past, a royal commentator has claimed.

The analysis comes as the Princess Royal marked her 75th birthday on Friday in a characteristically understated manner.

Across the last year, the King's sister maintained her position as the monarchy's most industrious member, taking on 474 engagements.

Despite certainly earning the reputation as the hardest working royal, commentator Jennie Bond believed she often felt "underappreciated" in the past.

Bond recalled when she experienced the Princess Royal's moments of feeling overlooked firsthand.

"There have been times when I think she has felt underappreciated," the former BBC royal correspondent began.

She reflected on a moment during a trip to Uganda concerning Aids charity work, where Anne "berated" her.

Bond had been accompanying the Princess Royal to the African nation as part of her work with charities there.

"Diana had recently died, and the charity asked me to tell Anne that they needed a new champion. The request did not go down well," the expert confessed to The Mirror.

Decades later, Bond now believes King's Charles has helped assuage Anne's feelings with a series of honours for his only sister.

The monarch demonstrated his appreciation for his sister's steadfast support by appointing her to the prestigious position of Gold-Stick-in-Waiting during his coronation ceremony.

This historical role, traditionally reserved for those entrusted with protecting the sovereign's personal safety.

It was widely regarded as a significant gesture of gratitude from the King to his younger sister, whom he affectionately knows as 'Old Bean'.

The duty is just one of the ways Bond believed the Princess Royal had been recognised for her important role in the Royal Family.

"In recent years, I think her immense contribution to supporting her brother and the monarchy has been fully recognised", Bond said.

She is incredibly hard working and shows no sign of slowing down," the royal expert stated.

This appears to be the case as it recently emerged that Anne plans to continue her royal duties until she turns 90.

A source close to the Princess Royal revealed: "She has said her plan is to push on (with work) until she is 80, then start winding down a bit, and then copy the (late) Duke of Edinburgh and wind down completely at 90."

The source told The Times: "The head of state has to go on but the princess is in a position where she can wind down and say, 'I've done my bit', just like the Duke of Edinburgh did."
