King Charles has spoken about his "strong ties" to the Falkland Islands in a letter sent to the British Overseas Territory.
The monarch’s touching message came as the Falklands celebrated their national day.
On August 14, inhabitants of the South Atlantic islands commemorate the discovery of the Falklands by John Davis in 1592.

As such, King Charles sent a message to Governor Colin Martin-Reynolds CMG highlighting the “strong ties” between Britain and the islands.

“As you and the people of the Falkland Islands celebrate the auspicious occasion of your National Day, my wife and I have great pleasure in conveying our warmest congratulations to the Legislative Assembly and to the Falkland Islands community,” the King’s message began.
“I cherish greatly the strong ties between us and know that we will continue working together,” he praised.
Charles also stressed further cooperation with the Falklands on including on “important climate change and environment issues”.
The King recalled “such fond memories” of his visits to the South Atlantic territory.

While there, remembered being: “Particularly struck by the community’s passion and determination to protect the national environment.”
Charles highlighted: “Recent projects by local organisations to restore habitats and understand the migration patterns of seabirds make an inevitable contribution to international conservation efforts.
“Initiatives such as these demonstrate how your community, no matter how small, has an important role to play in matters of global importance,” he praised.

The monarch's message came ahead of his landmark address to the nation to mark VJ Day.
Victory over Japan Day marked the end of hostilities of the Second World War on August 15, 1945, drawing the most destructive conflict in human history to a close.

In his heartfelt address, the King said that those who served in the Pacific and Far East theatres of the war "shall never be forgotten".
He also celebrated the collaboration between different nations that achieved victory, finding a common cause "across vast distances, faiths and cultural divides".
His Majesty added that this cooperation demonstrated that: "In times of war and in times of peace, the greatest weapons of all are not the arms you bear but the arms you link."
