England beat The Netherlands to win a place at the Euro 2024 Championship finals

King Charles has sent a cheeky message to Gareth Southgate following England's victory in Wednesday's semi-final against The Netherlands.

The King, 75, took to social media with a congratulatory message to the Three Lions, who won 2-1 in Wednesday's semi-final match at the Euros.

Charles wrote: "My wife and I join all our family in wishing you the warmest congratulations on reaching the final of the UEFA European Championship - and in sending our very best wishes for Sunday’s match.

"If I may encourage you to secure victory before the need for any last-minute wonder-goals or another penalties drama, I am sure the stresses on the nation’s collective heart rate and blood pressure would be greatly alleviated!

"Good luck, England. Charles R."

Royal fans loved the monarch's tongue-in-cheek advice to the England coach ahead of the Three Lions penultimate Euro 2024 final on Sunday.

Charles's message urging the Three Lions to "secure victory before the need for any last minute wonder-goals" ahead of the Euro finals this weekend will resonate with every England fan.

The King wasn't the only senior royal to send his congratulations - Prince William also took to social media to congratulate the England squad.

Prince William was referring to Ollie Watkins who scored in the 90th minute, securing England's win.

The 28-year-old Aston Villa forward came off the bench before scoring the winning goal.

The goal will almost certainly solidify his name in England's football history books.

Prince William, as president of the FA, has been widely tipped to attend the finals this Sunday in Germany.

The Euro 2024 finals are coinciding with the Gentlemen's Singles Final at Wimbledon, meaning that the Prince of Wales will be unable to attend, should he travel to Germany.

The Princess of Wales, 42, usually presents the trophies to the winners at Wimbledon finals.

However, Kate's attendance is hanging in the balance amid her cancer treatment and the fact she has stepped back from royal duties.
