A 41-gun salute to mark King Charles’ accession anniversary took place in London’s Hyde Park today.

The occasion marks the monarch’s first year as King, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.

Soldiers and horses who were a part of Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral procession returned for the Accession Day event in the King’s honour.

Captain Amy Cooper gave the order to fire a 41-gun salute at 12 noon in Hyde Park. Cooper was also the lead rider in the procession carrying the coffin to lie in state in Westminster Hall last year.

There was also a 21-gun salute which took place at the same time at Edinburgh Castle.
