The lookalike had been hired for a press stunt to protest the Government’s new anti-smoking legislation

A Rishi Sunak lookalike was left shocked after being egged in an embarrassing blunder from an angry voter.

A member of the public thought that the Prime Minister was at the opening of a Vape shop in Northamptonshire but, in fact, had been hired for a press stunt to protest the Government’s new anti-smoking legislation.

A clip of the awkward moment has since gone viral, in which the Sunak lookalike was blasted with the farm produce and seen looking shellshocked.

Rishi Sunak's doppelganger said: "Work has really picked up this year with an election and Rishi under pressure. It's usually guest appearances for photos and events like that. This has never happened before though I have been shouted at in the street a lot. Some bloke called me a rude word the other week. I just laughed it off today, it didn't hurt or anything and the people on the shoot quickly helped me clean it off.

Riot Labs invited me to this photoshoot to launch their Flavourless Vape shop in Northampton in protest to the Government's new smoking legislation. It was all going well until the lad in the hoody ran over and smashed eggs on me. I've been getting plenty of gigs for looking like Rishi this year and this was the most eventful one I've done. I have had water chucked on me in the past. The suit is ruined but I'm hoping it will come out at the dry cleaners.

I know the real Rishi is taking a lot of stick at the moment but it shows how bad things are when his lookalike is getting grief in the streets too. I suppose I join an illustrious list of politicians that have been egged, including John Prescott and Ed Miliband. I can't believe the number of views it's had."

Rob Ford, a videographer from e-cigarette company Riot Labs who was at the photoshoot added: "We’d been there all morning launching a Flavourless Vape shop to highlight to the Government that a ban on flavours is going to have a devastating effect on smokers trying to quit. It's all a bit ironic, the vape sector is very angry at Rishi Sunak for his quit-smoking policies.

"It's a shame the poor lookalike got caught in the crossfire just for looking like the PM and we were all a bit worried when it happened. He took it well though to be fair to him but the videos have gone a bit nuts over the weekend."
