William Yarwood of the Taxpayers' Alliance has slammed Rachel Reeves’ “summer savings scheme” as “deluded”.
Speaking to GB News, the group’s Campaigns Director savaged the Chancellor’s new measures.
He described the policy as “essentially an attempt to shield households from the consequences of our own economic policies in the first place.
“The reason people can't afford things as they might have used to in regard to leisure activities is because of a crushingly high tax burden, which this government has continued on with as the last conservative government did.
“It's because of sky-high energy bills due to reckless net zero policies, which this government has not just doubled down on, but has tripled and quadrupled down on.
“The British summer has already been destroyed by Rachel Reeves.
“Anybody who's up in arms and saying ‘this is a great policy from Rachel Reeves’ is deluding themselves. It's completely pathetic,” Mr Yarwood declared.
