Rishi Sunak will step down as the Leader of the Conservative Party when his successor is selected
Former Liberal Democrats MP Norman Baker has delivered a damning verdict on who should not be the next leader of the Conservative party.
Rishi Sunak announced on Friday that he would step down as Tory leader “once the formal arrangements for selecting my successor are in place” after a landslide general election defeat for the Conservative Party means another leadership election is on the horizon.
The Conservatives were wiped out during the General Election by the Labour Party making Keir Starmer the next Prime Minister in the UK.
Speaking to GB News, Baker said: "There was a very good article in Time by William Hague."He's the only person in the Conservative Party who's been here and done this because he suffered in 97. He took over 97 after the last catastrophic Conservative election.
"He had some very good advice, part of which was you don't win from the fringes. Jeremy Corbyn didn't win from the left fringe. You don't win from the right fringe.
"You have to win from the centre. So if we get I mean, it's not up to me, but the Tories are never really Braverman.
"In my view, there's a ceiling to what she would get from the public, and that will keep Labour and the Lib Dems where they are.
"The Tories have to come back to the centre, I think, to win the next election."
