Charlie Kirk was a trusted ally of President Donald Trump
Donald Trump has paid an emotional tribute to close ally Charlie Kirk after he was shot last week.
Speaking and a joint press conference with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the US President said: "In the United Kingdom, we stand together for the fundamental rights and values of the English-speaking world. We have always stood together, and we will continue to do so.
"Just last week, a great American, Charlie Kirk, was tragically assassinated for speaking his mind. He was a remarkable young man with an incredible future. Some people even said he might one day be president. I told him myself 'Charlie, I think you’ve got a real shot.'
"He cared deeply about young people. He loved them. I’ve never seen anyone connect with youth the way Charlie did, and they connected with him in return. They are devastated by this loss.
"I’m grateful to the many British citizens who have offered their condolences. Charlie was a great person. On Sunday, I’ll be attending a service with some of the people here to celebrate his life and everything he achieved. It will be an incredible tribute."
