'There is a letter in the drawer in the Resolute Desk that is addressed to the vice president should something happen to him,' Sebastian Gorka said

Donald Trump has left instructions for JD Vance in case he is assassinated, a White House insider has revealed.

The instructions to the Vice President are tucked away within the Oval Office, Deputy Assistant to the President Sebastian Gorka has confirmed.

He told the New York Post: "There is a letter in the drawer in the Resolute Desk that is addressed to the Vice President should something happen to him."

Mr Trump has faced multiple threats to his life - most recently at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

In addition to threats from left-wing agents, there are also concerns the President could come under threat from foreign actors as he touches down for a summit in China to meet Xi Jinping.

Last week, Mr Gorka released the US Counterterrorism Strategy, which named "violent left-wing extremists, including anarchists and anti-fascists" as one of the three main types of terrorism the US was facing.

But Mr Gorka cast doubts there would be any attempts on Mr Trump's life during the foreign visit.

He said: "Number one, everybody wants recognition from this man. This is the most powerful individual we have seen since the likes of Eisenhower, right?

"This is a man everybody wants to be at the table with him to have the state dinner to have the recognition. The idea that you do something that undermines your recognition goes against what they wish to have."

Asked whether China could do something "sneaky" and give Mr Trump "Lyme disease", Mr Gorka disclosed that there are "protocols" for these types of situations.

A White House spokesman pointed to comments made by Mr Trump in January when asked about the mysterious continuity letter by Fox News.

In January, the President told NewsNation he has "very firm instructions" if he were to be taken out by the Iranian regime.

He added: "Like, if I were here, and they were making that threat to somebody, even not even a president, but somebody like they did with me, I would absolutely hit them so hard.

"Anything happens, they're going to wipe them off the face of this earth."

Cole Tomas Allen, 31, the alleged shooter at the White House Correspondents' Association, pleaded not guilty to the attack on Monday.

Allen wore an orange jumpsuit and was shackled at the waist as he appeared before US District Judge Trevor McFadden.

Mr Trump is set to discuss trade, Taiwan, and the war in Iran during his two-day trip to Beijing.

The President was accompanied by his son Eric and a group of US tech moguls, including Tesla chief Elon Musk and Nvidia's Jensen Huang.

On social media, Mr Trump said: "I will be asking President Xi, a Leader of extraordinary distinction, to 'open up' China so that these brilliant people can work their magic, and help bring the People's Republic to an even higher level."

Before embarking on the visit, the President said they were likely to have a "long talk" about Iran, but added "I don’t think we need any help".
