GB News members were asked whether they think that Britain should declare a national border emergency

After more than 1,000 migrants crossed the Channel yesterday, GB News asks its members if Britain should now declare a national border emergency.

French and UK border patrol vessels were overwhelmed by a record surge in small boat migrants yesterday, with an estimated 1,200 completing the perilous 21-mile journey on May 31.

The latest arrivals have smashed the daily total for this year, as people smugglers pushed out multiple migrant boats from a huge stretch of French coastline.

Several British and French lifeboats had to be called in to help border patrol vessels on both sides of the Channel deal with the huge numbers crossing.

At one point, the coastguard had to call on fishing boats to help a yacht which was taking on water, because all nearby maritime rescue assets were involved in dealing with migrants.

One maritime security source said: "Authorities in France and the UK have simply been overwhelmed at times today.

"We've seen three French lifeboats and two lifeboats from the RNLI called out to pick up migrants from some of the small boats."

GB News Kent producer said he had seen "back-to-back arrivals" at the migrant processing centre at Dover harbour.

He said "Well over a thousand migrants have arrived today, probably more like eleven hundred."

A whopping 99 per cent of GB News members who voted in the poll think Britain should declare a national border emergency, while just one per cent disagree.
