Reform UK has launched a petition to force local elections and stop Labour and the Conservatives from "plotting to take away the right to vote".

It has been revealed that council elections may be cancelled for more than five million Britons as the Government is weighing up requests from seven Conservative county council leaders to postpone next May's elections, in what Nigel Farage has described as a "complete total outrage".

The Reform leader has now urged people to sign a petition to "object to democracy being delayed".

The Clacton MP said in a video posted to X: "On May 1 this year, with the English county elections, they were cancelled in East Sussex, Essex, Hampshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Surrey and West Sussex.

"Angela Rayner, then Deputy Prime Minister, simply cancelled the elections, said they're delayed by a year. Coincidentally, they were all areas in which it was thought that Reform would win.

"Well, can you believe it? The Tory leaders of these councils have now written to the government asking for them to be postponed yet again.

"And in two cases, Tory council leaders openly saying they want the elections to be cancelled because they fear Reform will win.

"Now it looks like the Labour government will exceed to this demand and once again democracy will be denied in all of these counties. That is a complete total outrage."

On a dedicated website set up for the petition, a statement reads: "Last year the Tories and Labour colluded to rob millions of English people of their vote. Now they’re at it again."

"Only dictators cancel elections. Wherever you are in the UK, sign our petition to Let The People Vote," it reads.

Labour 'exploring what additional resources needed' to allow Israeli fans to attend Villa match

The Government has said it is "exploring what additional resources and support are required so all fans can attend” Aston Villa’s match against Maccabi Tel Aviv in Birmingham.

Authorities in the city are facing mounting pressure to overturn the ban on Israeli supporters from attending next month’s Europa League clash.

A Government spokesman said it was working with "policing and other partners" to ensure the game can go ahead with "all fans present".

Rachel Reeves: Welfare can't be 'untouched' in Budget

Rachel Reeves has said she cannot leave welfare “untouched” because it would mean putting up people’s taxes, ahead of her Budget in November.

The Chancellor has acknowledged she is looking at potential tax rises and spending cuts and signalled that taxes on the wealthy will feature in her November 26 statement.

She said welfare reforms still need to happen, in comments during a trip to Washington DC for the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

An attempt to push through cuts to benefits earlier this year led to a last-minute U-turn for the Government.

The Chancellor argued that MPs who previously voted against changes “recognise the welfare system is not working”.

She said during an interview with Channel 4: “You know we’ve now committed to doing reform in a different way, but we can’t leave welfare untouched.

“We can’t get to the end of this Parliamentary session and I’ve done nothing, basically."

Source denies claims Home Secretary knew about Maccabi Tel Aviv fan ban and accuses Kemi Badenoch of 'baseless political point scoring'

A source close to Shabana Mahmood has slammed "categorically untrue" claims that she knew about Maccabi Tel Aviv fans being banned from the upcoming Aston Villa match before it was revealed yesterday.

Kemi Badenoch today said the Home Secretary has "serious questions to answer" and accused Ms Mahmood of knowing the ban would be announced.

The Tory leader wrote to X: "Now we learn the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, knew Jewish football fans were being banned from a UK stadium, and did nothing.

"Just like Starmer did nothing when he found out the China spy case was collapsing. The Home Secretary has serious questions to answer."

In response, a source close to the Home Secretary said: "This is categorically untrue. The first time the Home Secretary knew that the fans were being banned was last night.

“Rather than baseless political point scoring, the Home Secretary is working tirelessly to ensure all fans can attend the game safely.”

Former Reform MP to be given Tory spot on influential parliamentary committee

The Conservatives are to give former Reform UK MP Rupert Lowe one of their spots on an influential parliamentary committee.

The Great Yarmouth MP will get a Tory seat on the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) because he shares the party’s values of "cutting waste", the Conservatives said.

Mr Lowe was elected as a Reform UK MP but had the whip suspended in March during a row with the party, and has since been sitting as an Independent.

A Conservative party spokesman said: "As Kemi Badenoch demonstrated when she made the offer to sit down with Keir Starmer to help get proper welfare savings through Parliament, the Conservatives will work cross-party if it is in the national interest."

“We want the PAC to do its job of ensuring taxpayers get better value for money from the state, as well as identifying areas of Government waste.”

Speaking of Mr Lowe directly, the spokesman added: "Having someone who has run a business and shares our values on cutting waste on this committee will help meet that goal."

Mr Lowe is not joining the Conservative Party as a result of the move, it is understood.

Nigel Farage vows: 'I'd shoot down Russian jets as PM' in broadside against 'bad dude' Vladimir Putin

Nigel Farage has revealed he would shoot down Russian drones if he were elected Prime Minister in what marks the Reform UK leader's strongest remarks on Russia.

The comments come after he came under cross-party fire, accusing him of being soft on Russian President Vladimir Putin who he admitted was a "very bad dude".

"I was really hoping that Trump would bring Putin to heel," Mr Farage told Bloomberg.

"That some kind of compromise could be struck, as it's just been recently struck with Gaza and Israel. Clearly, that is not going to happen."

'I'm not a racist!' Independent MP denies 'antisemitic' accusations

Ayoub Khan

Ayoub Khan rejects claims he is antisemitic for supporting the decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv fans

|

GB NEWS

Independent MP Ayoub Khan has insisted that he "is not a racist" after supporting the decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from the Aston Villa game next month.

The local politician has been hit with a deluge of antisemitic accusations after he backed the decision to bar fans of Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv from their fixture against Aston Villa on November 6.

Hitting out at the "echo chamber" of views, Mr Khan responded: "If I've supported the fact that Russian teams were being banned because of the atrocities that are being committed in Ukraine, I have held and maintained the same consistency when it comes to Israel's Israeli football teams.

"We have had more than 800 athletes murdered in Gaza, 350 of them footballers and a very prominent footballer, 41-year-old Mr Salam Soleimani, who was killed whilst waiting for food.

Palestine Action can still challenge terror ban after Home Office appeal quashed by court

Palestine Action (PA) will be able to challenge the decision to ban the group under anti-terror laws.

The Government has lost its appeal to overturn a court’s decision to allow PA’s co-founder a judicial review.

The group was “proscribed” in July, meaning showing support or affiliation became illegal.

The court said the ban disproportionately interfered with the fundamental human rights of freedom of speech and assembly, adding the Government should have consulted with the group first.

The Liberal-Democrats leader has said the ban against Maccabi Tel Aviv fans "cannot be allowed to stand".

"West Midlands Police must reverse their decision as soon as possible," Sir Ed Davey said.

"Jewish people should be safe everywhere in our country, and it's up to every police force to work with local authorities to work with the Government to make sure that happens."

Ayoub Khan MP slams PM for 'jumping to false narratives' on Maccabi Tel Aviv fans ban

The independent MP said the decision was not "taken lightly" and that advisory group "have deemed this match as high risk, and they've made their position clear".

He added that he supported the West Midlands Police.

"I support that independent, impartial board of experts. The prime minister, another parliamentarians don't, and shouldn't actually get involved in operational matters to start off with," he said.

Mr Khan accused Sir Keir of "jumping to false narratives" after Maccabi Tel Aviv fans were involved in clashes and disorder in Amsterdam.

Tory leader says 'we do not want to see Islamist threats to Jewish people'

Kemi Badenoch has told GB News that she does not want to see "Islamist threats to Jewish people" after Maccabi Tel Aviv fans were banned from attending their team's match with Aston Villa in Birmingham.

"We just had an attack in Manchester two weeks ago where two Jewish people were killed," she said.

"We need to make sure this is a safe country for them."

Kemi Badenoch: Keir Starmer 'did absolutely nothing to stop' China spy trial collapsing

The Tory leader said that "allowing" the China spy trial case to collapse was "shocking".

"We now know that Keir Starmer knew the case was collapsing and did absolutely nothing to stop it," Kemi Badenoch said.

"He was too interested in thinking about how he could blame the Conservatives than in making sure we have national security."

Tory leader declares China a 'national security threat'

Kemi Badenoch has told GB News that it is "clear that China is a national security threat", citing a speech by the head of the MI5.

"(He said) even just last week they were stopping Chinese threats," she said.

"Its very clear that China is a national security threat with all of this spying, all of this espionage."

Ms Badenoch said "we can't stop China from spying on us" and that the Tory party "knew about it" when it was in Government.

"We took many steps to deal with it," she said.

The Tory leader said if people are caught to allegedly spying for China, they should be prosecuted.

The leader of the Conservatives said in speaking with Jewish people they had told her they were "worried about ... media coverage".

"And how Jewish people are vilified," Kemi Badenoch added.

She said that the BBC Documentary on Gaza, which has been found by media watchdog Ofcom to have misled the public, "created a real climate of fear".

"We need our national broadcaster to work to the highest standards," she said.

Green Party calls for 'sporting and cultural boycott of all Israeli teams'

The Green Party has welcomed the decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from a match in Birmingham, calling for a "sporting and cultural boycott" of all Israeli teams.

The party criticised the Prime Minister, saying he had been "irresponsible" for saying it was "the wrong decision".

One of the Green Party's deputy leaders, Mothin Ali, said: "Everyone should be able to feel safe when they attend a football match, that's non-negotiable".

"It's irresponsible for Keir Starmer to question a safety decision of a local authority, especially when he is responsible for their chronic underfunding," he said.

"Under normal circumstances, supporters from across the fanbase should be allowed to attend and provision taken to ban violent elements such as The Ultras.

"But these are not normal circumstances: these games are taking place in the context of thousands of civilians being killed in Gaza, the illegal occupation of Palestinian land, and the upholding of a system of apartheid."

Mr Ali added that there needed to be a "sporting and cultural boycott of all Israeli teams" like what happened for "South African teams under apartheid".

Tory leader slams Keir Starmer for lacking 'backbone' after banning of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans

Kemi Badenoch has called Maccabi Tel Aviv fans being banned from attending their teams match against Aston Villa in Birmingham as a "national disgrace".

The Prime Minister said it was "the wrong decision" and that his Government would not "tolerate antisemitism on our streets".

Sir Keir joined MPs in denouncing the move with Ms Badenoch saying he should act.

She said it was a "national disgrace" and asked "how have things come to this?"

"Starmer pledged that Jews are welcome and safe in Britain. That he stands shoulder to shoulder with the Jewish community and will use the full force of his government to prove it," she added on X.

"Will he back those words with action and guarantee that Jewish fans can walk into any football stadium in this country? If not, it sends a horrendous and shameful message: there are parts of Britain where Jews simply cannot go."

Shadow Transport Secretary says banning Maccabi Tel Aviv fans is an 'unbelievable decision'

Richard Holden told GB News the decision to ban Israeli fans from Maccabi Tel Aviv from the Aston Villa match in Birmingham was the "completely wrong decision".

"It's an unbelievable decision and I cannot believe that MPs in Birmingham, some of them have been welcoming this decision," he said.

"People should be able to go to football matches, it's unbelievable that we're now seeing this pick and choose approach ... I cannot believe we are now seeing Jewish people basically being told they cannot attend a football match here in the United Kingdom."

Mr Holden said it was an "utter disgrace" and the Government needed to intervene.

The Shadow Transport Secretary said he was "convinced that ... everywhere a taxpayer can be shaken down, Rachel Reeves is going to shake them down".

"This Government came to power with no plan, and the Prime Minister has no backbone to stand up to his own backbenchers," Richard Holden said on GB News.

"When Parliament had the opportunity to slow the increase ... of the amount we were paying in welfare, Labour MPs voted against it."

He said ultimately taxpayers would pay the price for the Government's poor decisions.

Shadow Transport Secretary questions how 'anybody can believe' what Keir Starmer says

Richard Holden has told GB News that he finds it "difficult to see how anybody can believe the Prime Minister said".

"The Prime Minister says there is absolutely no political involvement whatsoever," the Shadow Transport Secretary said.

Mr Holden said Sir Keir said "on the one hand" that he "was desperately keen to ensure there was prosecutions in this case".

"Yet days before the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) said they were basically going to collapse the trial, and they did absolutely nothing," he added.

When questioned about whether politics should be involved in the judicial process, Mr Holden said when it comes to national security, and "when the Government is literally the ones when its parliament literally spying in the House of Commons ... allegedly".

Mr Holden said the Government was not providing the necessary evidence and "it absolutely stinks", calling on the Government to answer "massive questions" over the case.
