Lee Anderson said he would "sooner leave the ECHR"

Lee Anderson has slammed the Government for being weak and not sending small boats carrying migrants back to France.

He said on GB News: “The problem at the moment with the migrant crisis is we’ve got a weak government that is not prepared to do the right thing, and the right thing is turn-backs in the English Channel.

“We know that works, other countries have done it, it has succeeded in the past.

“…let's get it right, they are illegal migrants, not genuine asylum seekers. Once they get to this country, stick them on a boat and send them straight back to France.”

Speaking to Patrick Christys, he added: “It needs political will and it needs a courageous government to do this and we can do it.

“I’d sooner leave the ECHR - just ignore it. Take these people back. These people are breaking into our country and we've seen the awful news yesterday, five people dying, people rushing these dinghies on the French beach, jumping on and creating mayhem, people being thrown into the sea.

“Little children dying, it’s disgusting and actually Parliament where I work has got blood on its hands. This should be stopped.”

On David Cameron’s comments on immigration, he said: “He's blaming Brexit, and he needs to have a look at himself in the mirror, because it was him that gave us the referendum that ultimately let us leave the European Union."
