Keir Starmer is currently in The Hague discussing migration

Esther McVey has slammed Keir Starmer’s latest plan to tackle the UK’s growing illegal migrant crisis.

Speaking on Britain’s Newsroom, McVey shared her thoughts on the Labour leader’s plan to open an EU-wide returns deal for asylum seekers.

McVey said: “I would say only Keir Starmer could come up with the idea of stopping illegal migration by making sure they all come here legally. It's a bit like saying we're going to crack down on burglars in prisons, and the way we're going to do that is by decriminalising burglary. That's what they're doing.

“He’s trying to sell it well at the moment, isn't he? What we're going to do is crack down on all those smugglers, but if you hear what the National Crime Agency are saying, they're saying you need a deterrent.

Therefore, you need a Rwanda scheme. You need a third country where people are going to if they've got rid of the passport, so you can't send them back to their own country. And he is getting rid of that deterrent.

McVey continued: “I will say, if they don't do that, we're heading for a constitutional crisis. If the law, you know, the judges are going to say no to what has been a democratic and a political decision.

“I don't believe there's any substance to it. I think the reality is it's his way to take us back into the EU. It's his way to do the EU's bidding.”
