The future of the SNP has been thrown into disarray after Humza Yousaf’s takeover, with one journalist forecasting a “downward” trajectory for the party.

Humza Yousaf was voted as the new leader of the SNP last month after Nicola Sturgeon announced she would be resigning as Scottish First Minister.

This week, the former first minister’s home was raided and her husband was held by police as part of an investigation into the funding of the SNP and what happened to more than £600,000.

Joining Dan Wootton on GB News, Alan Cochrane said the party was in a “shocking” state.

He said: “ They don't know which way to turn, I'm afraid. The SNP looks as if its in a downward spiral that they can't get out of and led by a leader who doesn't really know what he's doing.

“I suspect that we can celebrate the gradual demise of the SNP, not necessarily the end of the independence movement

“There's there's the Alba Party which did nothing at the last election despite Alex Salmond saying they're going to sweep the board. And there's also the Scottish Greens who are frankly a waste of space but for some reason people vote for them.

“The SNP are in deep, deep trouble, but independence is still alive.”
