The initiative would see new non-doms pay a £250,00 landing fee in exchange for a 'Britannia Card'

Dame Andrea Jenkyns has backed Reform UK's proposal to charge non-doms a one-off fee, though she emphasised the need to examine the policy's specifics.

Speaking to GB News, the Reform Mayor indicated she could support the measure despite describing herself as a "Thatcherite supporter".

"I need to see the fine details," Jenkyns stated, whilst acknowledging the policy's potential merit.

She suggested the scheme could help reverse the exodus of wealthy individuals from Britain under Labour's policies.

The proposed fee would be used to fund benefit payments for lower-income earners, according to the party's plans.

Jenkyns drew comparisons between Reform's approach and Margaret Thatcher's electoral success: "I think that's what Thatcher did, wasn't it. She won in red wall seats and she ran in the blue wall seats as well," she said.

The Greater Lincolnshire Mayor, who described herself as "a working class girl", argued the policy could attract support from traditional Labour constituencies.

"I think it'd go down well in the red wall," she stated, suggesting the redistribution from wealthy non-doms to "the lowest income earners" would resonate with voters.

She highlighted how Thatcher's appeal centred on "pride in our country" and "strong armed forces", values she claimed Reform shares through its focus on "community, country and family".

Jenkyns emphasised that Reform's priorities remain firmly with British citizens: "The British people are the priority for Reform so they come first," she stated, explaining why the party seeks to generate revenue from non-doms.

She advocated for complete abolition of inheritance tax for UK citizens. "We do want to abolish the inheritance tax, and I would like to see it abolished full stop as well," Jenkyns said.

She added: "As somebody who works hard, I want to give my house and my assets to my child."

The former Education Minister suggested a dual approach "What I would like to see is British people, we abolish inheritance tax and the non-doms, we take their £250,000," she added.

Jenkyns addressed criticism from the Robin Hood Party, who contacted her on social media suggesting Reform was adopting their policies. She framed the proposal as a pragmatic response to current economic challenges.

"Labour's making such a hash of everything, we're losing the millionaires out of Britain," she stated.

"This is a way to bring them back again and show them that we're serious about creating a climate where everybody can thrive."

The ex-Tory MP positioned the policy as simultaneously attracting wealthy individuals back to Britain whilst supporting those most in need. "We'll have your money and we'll give it to the most needy," she explained, defending the redistributive element of the proposal.
