Nana Akua has called for Gary Lineker to be fired by the BBC
Nana Akua has hit out at Gary Lineker over his decision to comment on the Government’s proposed migrant policy, breaching BBC impartiality rules.
Lineker compared the language used to launch the new Government asylum policy with 1930s Germany on Twitter.
The BBC has since said it has decided the former England footballer will take a break from presenting Match of the Day until an “agreed and clear position” on his use of social media has been reached.
Nana Akua, a former BBC employee herself, hit out at Lineker saying it was not about freedom of speech, but his decision to make the comments while working for a state owned broadcaster that prides itself on being impartial.
She said: “This is not about freedom of speech. I’m all for that freedom, but this is not about that.
“This is about working for a state owned broadcaster, paid for by you and I, if you don’t pay the licence fee, you could end up in jail, a broadcaster whose existence relies on being apolitical and impartial.. that is the only way they can survive.”
She continued: “Nobody’s bigger than the channel Gary and all the presenters joining you might want to consider that.
“It's time to clear the BBC Sport pitch.. It's time to show Lineker the red card”
