Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum took to social media to say that the shooting would be investigated and that she was in touch with the Canadian Embassy.

“What happened today in Teotihuacán deeply pains us. I express my most sincere solidarity with the affected individuals and their families,” she wrote.
"I have instructed the Security Cabinet to thoroughly investigate these events and provide all necessary support.
" Personnel from the Secretariat of the Interior and Culture are already heading to the site to provide assistance and accompaniment, along with local authorities."
The pyramid holds a special place in Aztec tradition, as it states that the Sun, the Moon and the rest of the universe all trace their origins back to Teotihuacán.

They called it “the place where the gods were created.”
The area holds three separate pyramids, the Pyramid of the Sun, the Pyramid of the Moon and the Temple of Quetzalcoatl.
The city was once one of the biggest in Mesoamerica with over 25,000 people.
The Temple of Quetzalcoatl is also known as Temple of the Plumed Serpent, and features an array of snake carvings along the walls.
The Pyramid of the Sun is largest pyramid within the northern hemisphere standing at over 250 feet tall and 738 feet wide.
The ancient city is a Unesco World Heritage site protected by the National Institute of Anthropology and History.
Climbing the pyramids is no longer allowed as it once was.
