The convicted rapist smirked when asked where Madeleine McCann was

Christian Brueckner, the main suspect in the Madeleine McCann case, has been moved out of his flat by police after being seen staring at children playing outside.

The convicted rapist had been moved into a two-bed flat, near a shelter for vulnerable girls, by a local council following his release from prison on September 17.

However, after worried parents in the northern German town posted pictures of Brueckner creepily staring out of a window overlooking an area where children tend to play, police were called.

Three police vans and 15 officers arrived at his address and took him away.

Frowning cops carried Brueckner's belongings from the ground floor before he strolled out arrogantly afterwards.

As officers led the rapist away, he was asked by The Sun on Sunday: "Christian, can you tell us what happened to Madeleine McCann?"

Brueckner appeared to smirk as he walked on.

As he was driven away by police, parents shouted: "Scum, shame on you!"

One mum stated: "Good riddance, I'm glad he's gone. I can't believe they bought him here anyway."

Another dad said: "This man is a s***. Everyone knew he was here, and everyone was afraid. We can get on with our lives now - I pray they take him to a different town."

Brueckner's address was posted in a WhatsApp group set up to monitor him, but it was understood that the criminal somehow joined the group and was also seeing the messages.

One furious mum said: "Germany will curse the day Christian B was released. He will move, be discovered, then everyone will demand he is gone."

The convicted rapist had arrived in the town on September 19.

Parks are understood to have been emptied by families, and legally available pepper spray has sold out.

A demonstration against his presence was due this week.

Just a few days ago, Brueckner boasted to shop workers that he could expose one of the "greatest mysteries ever" and end "the scandal of the century".

Phone shop manager Farouk Salah-Brahmin said: "Brueckner told me he had some information.

"I don't know if it's the McCann case, but he said he had evidence that could bring the scandal of the century to an end.

"He said he would end all the accusations against him. He said he can bring his own solution. He said something about USB sticks.

"The way he said it, he must have been talking about the Madeleine McCann case. What else could he be talking about?"
