Tensions between the two nations are rising again

Donald Trump has issued fresh warnings to Iran after they fired at ships travelling through the Strait of Hormuz.

On Truth Social, the US President said: "Iran decided to fire bullets yesterday in the Strait of Hormuz — A Total Violation of our Ceasefire Agreement!

"Many of them were aimed at a French Ship, and a Freighter from the United Kingdom. That wasn’t nice, was it? My Representatives are going to Islamabad, Pakistan — They will be there tomorrow evening, for Negotiations.

"Iran recently announced that they were closing the Strait, which is strange, because our BLOCKADE has already closed it. They’re helping us without knowing, and they are the ones that lose with the closed passage, $500 Million Dollars a day!

"The United States loses nothing. In fact, many Ships are headed, right now, to the U.S., Texas, Louisiana, and Alaska, to load up, compliments of the IRGC, always wanting to be 'the tough guy!'

"We’re offering a very fair and reasonable DEAL, and I hope they take it because, if they don’t, the United States is going to knock out every single Power Plant, and every single Bridge, in Iran.

"NO MORE MR. NICE GUY!

"They’ll come down fast, they’ll come down easy and, if they don’t take the DEAL, it will be my Honour to do what has to be done, which should have been done to Iran, by other Presidents, for the last 47 years.

"T’S TIME FOR THE IRAN KILLING MACHINE TO END! President DONALD J. TRUMP."

The warning comes after at least two merchant vessels attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz came under fire on Saturday.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations confirmed it has logged a reported incident in waters northeast of Oman, near the strait.

According to the Royal Navy-run organisation, a tanker captain reported that vessels belonging to Iran's Revolutionary Guard approached his ship before opening fire.

The shooting came just hours after Iran's state broadcaster IRIB confirmed Tehran has "now closed" the strait after they claimed the US "did not fulfil their obligations".

In a statement, the military said that the strait had "returned to its previous state" and requires Iran's approval to travel through.

Iran has also stated that it is "fully prepared" should the US "make the slightest mistake."

Delivering a speech on Iran state media, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of Iran's Parliament, said the ceasefire represented a military victory for Iran.

Mr Ghalibaf, who also served as lead negotiator in peace talks, said: "We are fully prepared, if they make the slightest mistake, we will respond with full force."

The US and Iran remain far from any permanent peace agreement, Mr Ghalibaf said.

He said Tehran had "stated our demands firmly" but there were "misunderstandings" between the two sides.

"But in direct negotiations, we understood each other better," he added.
