The young man was pronounced dead at the scene

A 19-year-old man has been stabbed to death in a Kent seaside town in an "extremely shocking and upsetting" attack.

Local police have launched a murder investigation after a young man died on Belmont Road in Whitstable on the north Kent coast.

The emergency services were called at about 2am on Good Friday, with an air ambulance landing on nearby Westmeads Recreation Ground roughly an hour later.

However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Whitstable's MP, Rosie Duffield, said: "This is extremely shocking and upsetting.

"I know the area well and incidents like this are incredibly rare in our community.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Kent Police.”

A forensics tent has been erected next to the Windsor House flats block in Belmont Road, with the road expected to remain shut to the public for several hours.
