
Squadron Leader Pete Peters, the last surviving hero of Operation Bagpipes, has received a full RAF guard of honour at his funeral in Lakenheath.
The nuclear test veteran had been destined for a small service attended only by his son, but local RAF crews and veterans will now line the streets of his village to pay tribute.
Mr Peters was among Britain’s first nuclear veterans and was denied a medal for decades because the secrecy surrounding his mission.
After campaigning to change the criteria, he finally received his medal in 2024, presented at his home by Veterans Minister, Al Carns.
