Michelle Dewberry has opened up on GB News about a "sickening" story, explaining why she believes Britain is at a "crossroads".

On Monday, a report revealed many of the nation's leading food experts believe Britain could face civil unrest over food shortages - and that the UK has become a "tinderbox" for such unrest.

Discussing the report, the GB News star told her panel: "I've got to say, when I think about the country being a tinderbox and one shock away from riots or unrest on the street, food security is not really the thing that springs to my mind.

"Perhaps it won't spring to the mind of many of my viewers either. I'm not saying it's not a core issue. Sure, of course it is.

"I think that many aspects of this country feels like it is a tinderbox situation, and that's because many of the people in this country feel that they are repeatedly ignored by politicians, repeatedly, in terms of how their communities change.

"There was a story the other day sickened me. There was a lady, I think she was 97. She was told it would take multiple days for her to get an ambulance to her house. She died.

"That, for me, is why I feel this country is a tinderbox, a crossroads."

Meanwhile, a UK Government spokesman said: "Food security is national security, and our high degree of food security is built on both strong domestic production and imports through stable trade routes.

"This Government is investing billions in the development of new technology to increase yields or create climate-resilient crops, streamlining regulation, and helping farmers produce food for the nation."
