The pair appeared to be exchanging pleasantries as their Alaska summit drew to a close

Watch the moment Russian President Vladimir Putin struggles to stand up straight as he bids farewell to President Trump.

The pair appeared to be exchanging pleasantries as their Alaska summit drew to a close, but the moment raised questions about the Russian leader’s demeanour.

Many have taken to social media to share theories like Putin opted to wear height-boosting shoes to lessen the height disparity with his 6ft3 counterpart.

The Kremlin has repeatedly had to quell rumours about his health in recent years, including suggestions he has Parkinson’s or cancer.

Putin's movements sparked speculation

Ukrainian news outlets were quick to jump on the baffling moment and speculate what may have caused his jelly legs.

Telegram channel Nevzorov said: “Putin seems to have achieved his goal, but he is twitching suspiciously. His legs are ‘shaking.’ Maybe his shoes are tight.”

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

President Trump towers over his 5ft7 counterpart leading many to question whether Putin wanted to appear taller in a supposed power play.

The pair appeared to be grappling for the initiative as they shook hands in front of reporters shortly after touching down in Alaska ahead of their showdown talks.

The two leaders held talks for three hours

The US President later hailed his talks with Putin as “great and very successful”, but a ceasefire in Ukraine was not agreed upon.

The US delegation landed back in Washington shortly after 7am on Saturday after a hectic few hours in Alaska.

President Trump revealed on his Truth Social platform that he told European allies and President Volodymyr Zelensky that Putin wants the war to end completely as opposed to a ceasefire.

Now Zelensky and other European leaders will convene at the White House tomorrow to decide what comes next in the Western push for peace.

Ursula von der Leyen, Sir Keir Starmer, Friedrich Merz and Alexander Stubb are among those joining President Zelensky.

Claims have emerged that Putin is demanding full control of Donetsk and Luhansk as a condition for peace.

President Trump is reportedly intending to discuss Putin’s proposal with President Zelensky during their upcoming Oval Office meeting.

Putin has faced questions about his appearances before, notably at a public event in Astana, Kazakhstan last year.

During an hour-long speech, the Russian president repeatedly moved his legs and feet in an apparent involuntary movement as his muscles appeared to twitch.
