Prosecutors have publicly revealed the chilling text exchange between Charlie Kirk's alleged assassin and his transgender partner in the aftermath of the shooting at Utah Valley University.

Lance Twiggs, the roommate and lover of 22-year-old suspect Tyler Robinson, provided authorities with evidence of the exchange that took place soon after the conservative activist had been shot.

The text conversation started with Mr Robinson telling his partner to “drop what you are doing [and] look under my keyboard".

After looking under the keyboard, his roommate discovered a note which read: “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”

Prosecutors said the suspect's partner responded by saying "“what?????????????? You’re joking, right????," after reading the note, which was recovered by the police.

The 22-year-old then said: "I am still ok my love, but am stuck in Orem for a little while longer yet. Shouldn’t be long until I can come home, but I gotta grab my rifle still.

"To be honest I had hoped to keep this secret till I died of old age. I am sorry to involve you."

After his partner asked him whether he was "the one who did it", Mr Robinson replied: "I am, I’m sorry."

After being asked why he allegedly carried out the assassination, the 22-year-old said: "I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out."

Mr Robinson continued: "If I am able to grab my rifle unseen, I will have left no evidence. Going to attempt to retrieve it again, hopefully they have moved on. I haven’t seen anything about them finding it."

After his partner asked him how long he had been planning the murder, the suspect said: "A bit over a week."

The 22-year-old then told his roommate he was "worried" about his fingerprints on the rifle after having to ditch the weapon because of a police car nearby, before instructing to "delete this exchange".
