Donald Trump 'will not tolerate the intimidation and harassment of Christians', the White House said

A mob of demonstrators have stormed an American church over claims the pastor had links to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice).

Protesters were seen invading Cities Church in St Paul, Minnesota just as Sunday service was beginning.

Video footage shows activists chanting "justice for Renee Good" inside the church as worshippers were forced away.

"Justice for Renee Good," they continued, adding: "Who needs justice, we need justice."

Ms Good was shot dead by an Ice agent on January 7 after ramming her car into him.

Cities Church has eight pastors in various roles on its staff - one of whom is David Easterwood, who shares his name with the acting director of Ice's St Paul field office.

Demonstrators claimed one of the pastors at the venue had links to the agency.

The protesters positioned themselves in the middle of the church while the pastor was speaking - while a person filming the incident described it as a "clandestine mission."

The disruption has raised concerns among law enforcement and religious leaders about protesters targeting places of worship.

"Agitators aren't just targeting our officers. Now they're targeting churches, too," the US Department of Homeland Security said.

White House press chief Karoline Leavitt condemned the stunt, saying Donald Trump "will not tolerate the intimidation and harassment of Christians in their sacred places of worship".

"The Department of Justice has launched a full investigation into the despicable incident that took place earlier today at a church in Minnesota," she added.

The DHS then accused Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey of "whipping these mobs into a frenzy and then allowing them to run rampant".

"We won't be deterred," DHS added. "Ice isn't going anywhere."

The Department of Justice has launched an investigation into the church incident - mere hours after it confirmed a probe was underway into Mr Walz and Mr Frey.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon added that the US Civil Rights Division is examining potential violations of the federal Face Act, which protects places of worship.

The church raid came as Mr Frey declared that locals were "speaking up peacefully" - shortly after an anti-Ice activist was accused of attempting to stab a counter-demonstrator.

"This is not about safety. What this is about is coming into our city by the thousands and terrorising people simply because they're Latino or Somali," he said.

"People in Minneapolis are speaking up. They're speaking up peacefully. They're standing up for their neighbours.

"This is not just about resisting Trump. This is about loving and caring for the people that call this city home. And it's been inspiring."
