The Democrat shed light on speculation of an 'enormous conspiracy' to hide the truth

Barack Obama has disclosed aliens are “real” in a revealing exchange where he also discussed the secrets of the infamous Area 51 base.

The former US President appeared to provide a tantalising new development in the question of other intelligent life in the universe and what Governments may know of it.

Appearing on the No Lie podcast hosted by Brian Tyler Cohen, Mr Obama was asked what question most intrigued him upon taking office.

“Where are the aliens?” the 44th President replied, laughing.

Naturally, he was then pressed on whether he was able to satisfy that curiosity.

“They’re real, but I haven’t seen them,” Mr Obama replied with a grin.

The former President then addressed the long-debated conspiracy theory the US Government was in possession of extraterrestrial specimens.

“They’re not being kept in – what is it? There’s no underground facility unless there’s this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the president of the United States,” he said, seemingly in reference to Area 51 in Nevada.

The highly classified United States Air Force facility, found at Groom Lake in the Nevada Desert and 85 miles north of Las Vegas, has been central to speculation about human contact with aliens.

Groom Lake, as it is officially known, is commonly thought to support the development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons.

It was acquired by the Air Force and the CIA in 1955 to test the, at the time, top secret and cutting-edge Lockheed U-2 spy aircraft.

However, the base has also developed a community of fascinated extraterrestrial enthusiasts who are convinced it is actually a storage facility for crashed alien spacecraft.

Other, more fantastical claims range from reverse-engineering intergalactic weapons to experiments involving weather manipulation, teleportation and even time travel.

Mr Obama’s remarks come months after filmmaker Dan Farah, director of The Age of Disclosure, alleged that a dramatic revelation could be imminent.

“I think it’s only a matter of time before the release of this film is followed by a sitting president stepping to the podium and telling the world, ‘We’re not alone in the universe,’” Mr Farah claimed in November.

“It’s the most significant moment a leader could possibly have,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

To that end, speculation has also swirled around the perspective of President Donald Trump, who has previously mused on the subject in interviews.

In July 2024, speaking to influencer Logan Paul, Mr Trump said he was not a “believer” but ominously qualified: “Probably I can’t say I am.”

“I have met with people that are serious people that say there’s some really strange things that they see flying around out there.”

Two months later, when podcaster Lex Fridman asked whether he would seek the release of more footage of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), Mr Trump responded: “I’ll do that. I would do that. I’d love to do that. I have to do that.”

In October, during a conversation with Joe Rogan, he struck a more relaxed tone, saying the topic had “never been my thing”.

Once again, he teasingly added: “There’s no reason not to think that Mars and all these planets don’t have life.”

Believers note highly compartmentalised black projects do exist, with access to classified information governed by “need to know” clearance rather than rank alone. This means that, in theory, even the President might not be briefed on every covert programme.

However, sceptics have long argued there is no substantial evidence of any contact between humanity and an extraterrestrial visitor.
