Thames Valley Police confirmed the boy injured in the assault had been discharged from hospital

Two boys have been arrested after a student was injured in an assault at Reading College yesterday.

A 17-year-old from Reading was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and possessing a bladed article on educational premises, while a 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.

The pair remain in police custody, Thames Valley Police said in a statement.

On Thursday at 2:20 pm, a boy suffered an "assault with injury" at Reading College in Kings Road.

The victim's injuries were deemed not life-threatening, and he has since been discharged from the hospital, the force confirmed in their statement.

"We understand that this may have caused concern but we are investigating this as a priority and are working closely with our partners," TVP continued.

"Officers remain in the area and are conducting increased patrols. If you have any worries or concerns, please speak with a uniformed officer," they added.

In the moments after the incident, a lockdown was called at the college as armed police arrived at the scene.

A helicopter was also spotted circling above the campus, according to the Reading Chronicle.

A message displayed on a computer in a classroom at the college told pupils to enter lockdown conditions.

It read: "Please enter lockdown. This is not a drill.

"Please secure your rooms and keep students in."

Students were later able to leave the college after the lockdown was lifted.

The college said the alleged attack was an "isolated incident" and confirmed it will open as normal.

A statement read: "As many of you will now be aware, there was an incident at Reading College and University Centre today, where the college went into lockdown following an assault where one student sustained injuries.

"We appreciate this has been an unsettling experience for those on site. We want to reassure you that this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing risk to students, staff, or our wider community and college will be open tomorrow as normal.

"The situation was managed quickly, and the police are dealing with ongoing investigations. The student who was hurt has received care and is being supported.

"Our thoughts are with them, and we ask that everyone respects their privacy at this time, and that you do not speculate or discuss this incident on social media, so we do not disrupt the police investigation," they added.

An automated message was also sent to the college’s phone line that informed: "We are currently dealing with an incident at Reading College where one student has sustained injuries not believed to be life-threatening. Their family have been informed. The police have been notified and are present.

"Please be reassured that all actions have been taken to ensure students’ safety," it read.

The college, which is located close to Reading town centre, offers apprenticeships as well as adult learning and further and higher education courses.
