Lowri Turner has supported Julie Burchill's claims that women should 'be more Karen', following a growth in the name being used as a derogatory term, including a new food chain of 'Karen's Diner', where the waiting staff are purposefully rude to customers.
Speaking on Dan Wootton Tonight, Lowri Turner debated the topic with TV personality Kim Woodburn and Commentator Joanna Jarjue, where the conversation became embroiled in a heated row.
Turner said: “I’m with Julie Birchill on this because it is used as a term of abuse by young people against older women who are a very discriminated against group. And that's why I think we do need to reclaim this. And we do need to be proud that women who are middle age like me, we understand that for ourselves. Because what's the alternative? That we get walked all over.”
Kim Woodburn then chimed in, saying: “I'm known for it, dear. But if somebody annoys me, they're going to get it with both barrels, dear. I haven't got another moment in my life to pussy foot with these ****holes. I'm sorry. If someone really annoys me, they would be told they annoy me.”
Joanna Jarjue shared her thoughts on a 'Karen', saying: “So to me the difference is if something annoys you personally and you've actually got a problem with a service that actually relates to you, fine. I think the differences with Karen's is that they don't know how to mind their business.
“So I actually recently saw a TikTok video of a Karen where somebody was parked in a parking space and that Karen came knocking, not minding her business, saying can you show me that you're really disabled. That's the Karen not being able to mind your own business and get on.”
Turner then hit back at Jarjue, arguing: “We have to mind our businesses, why do we have to do that? But that's one step away from saying don't make a fuss, don't make, you know, be small, be kind of closed in.
I think women need particularly older women need to be. Here I am! If I wanna knock on somebody's car window, I'm gonna do that. And if that embarrasses my kids, which it does, that's their problem, not mine. I don't think that younger people should be telling older people. None of your business, stay out of it? No!”
