Passengers on the Thameslink train were left stranded in 33C heat after services shut down mid-journey

GB News hosts Tom Harwood and Emily Carver have branded a Just Eat driver a "legend" after viral footage showed the courier throwing bottles of water to stranded train passengers.

Footage shared on social media platform captured the driver standing at trackside level, accurately tossing items through the open doors of a stationary train positioned on raised track above.

The incident occurred during a major service disruption on June 21, when a train fault between London Blackfriars and Herne Hill brought multiple services to a standstill.

The breakdown, near Loughborough Junction, left approximately 1,800 passengers stranded in extreme heat, with many carriages losing power and air conditioning.

Reacting to the footage, Tom praised the courier and said he is a "legend" for helping the stranded passengers in sweltering heat.

Tom said: "I think he's a legend! He saw people that were clearly hot and bothered, the train, I think was stuck because it got too hot and nothing works in this country, so absolutely fantastic."

Emily agreed, adding: "He's a legend in the making. I think it's bottles of water he's throwing, so he must have just found them, bought them and decided to help out."

Tom then suggested that possibly one of the stranded passengers ordered resources to where the train was stuck on the tracks.

Tom said: "Unless some enterprising person on the train ordered it to the train, in which case also legend."

Praising the actions of the Just Eat driver, Emily concluded: "Either way, it's a nice little picture of modern Britain, graffiti there to match.

"Apparently it's an absolute nightmare for trains from London to Brighton, I think they stopped and people had to get out of the trains and walk down the tracks."

British Transport Police were called to the scene just before 11am to assist with the evacuation. London Fire Brigade deployed 25 firefighters to help passengers disembark from the immobilised trains.

Passengers endured harrowing conditions during the ordeal, with some reportedly trapped for up to two hours without air conditioning or ventilation. Social media posts described passengers being "slow-cooked" during the peak of the nationwide heatwave.

A spokesman for Govia Thameslink Railway and Network Rail said: "Earlier today, a fault on a train near Loughborough Junction brought all services to a halt in the area, three of them outside station platforms.

"Without power and air conditioning on such a hot day, we pulled all resources from across Sussex and Kent to get personnel on site to safely evacuate passengers as quickly as possible along the track.

"This would have been a difficult and uncomfortable experience for our passengers and we are truly sorry."
