A Ryanair flight bound for Tenerife was forced to make an emergency return to Birmingham Airport yesterday afternoon following a medical incident onboard.
The Boeing 737-800, operating as flight FR1121, had departed Birmingham at approximately 3.35pm on Sunday.
However, it was forced to turn back shortly after take-off when the medical emergency occurred.
The aircraft, which can accommodate 189 passengers, was met by emergency services upon landing at Birmingham Airport.
The budget airline's flight had been scheduled to reach Tenerife South after a journey of four hours and 23 minutes.
However, FlightRadar24 data suggests the Ryanair flight turned back to Birmingham after just 74 minutes.
Holidaymakers only made it to the English Channel before having their flights rescheduled after returning to Birmingham Airport.
Emergency crews were positioned on the tarmac as a precautionary measure when the aircraft made its unplanned return to Birmingham.
A Birmingham Airport spokesman said: "Due to a medical emergency on board, an aircraft returned shortly after take-off.
"Our on-site fire service responded to this as a precaution and part of our procedures for an unplanned landing."
The flight was rescheduled to depart Birmingham after 8pm yesterday evening.
Passengers would eventually arrive at their Canary Islands destination in the early hours of this morning.
