Tom Harwood pulls apart Jonathan Ashworth over North Sea Oil and Gas vote
Tom Harwood has slammed Jonathan Ashworth over the North Sea Oil and Gas vote that is due to be debated in parliament today.
The bill would allow for an annual licensing regime for oil and gas exploration contracts.
It has been very controversial among MPs and the former minister Chris Skidmore announced on Friday he would be stepping down from parliment as a result of the proposed legislation.
Labour says it will vote against today's oil and gas legislation and has challenged Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to call a general election rather than undergo more by-elections.
Tom Harwood, host on GBNews, discussed the bill with Labour MP for Leicester South Jonathan Ashwood and accused the party of "having their cake and eating it too."
Harwood said: "I'm taking to understand the Labour Party will be voting against the government's plan to use our own natural resources to get oil and gas for Britain.
"And yet, Sir Keir Starmer has not committed to canceling those projects.
"If you win this year's general election, isn't that having your cake and eating it, voting against the new licenses, but then reaping all their benefits if you happen to be elected into power?"
The MP explained: "No, we're not having our cake and eating it. What we've said is that future licenses should not be granted because of both the costs of subsidizing those licenses and our wider commitments to climate change.
"But that basin is going to continue with exploration for many, many years and a lot of jobs are dependent."
