The former Conservative leader insisted there should be 'zero tolerance' for anti-Jewish hate

Sir Iain Duncan Smith has revealed his Jewish half-sister was considering leaving Britain over the growing "pathological hatred of Jews" in the wake of the stabbing in Golders Green.

The former Conservative Party leader spoke to GB News after two Jewish men were attacked in north west London in an incident now being treated as a terrorist attack.

Both men are in a stable condition in hospital, while a 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Speaking about the rise of antisemitic attacks in the UK, Sir Iain said the situation began "root and branch with the tolerance that we seem to have managed to develop for anti-Jewish hatred on the streets".

The former Tory leader highlighted Pro-Palestine demonstrations as not “having done any good” for the crisis.

"There have been marches every week where they were chanting out these slogans, which were about the destruction of Israel and the Jews.

"People have used the issue of the war in Gaza with Hamas as a stepping stone to turning that into anti-Semitic hate here on the streets of Britain," Sir Iain argued.

"That cannot be tolerated."

"I have a Jewish sister-in-law, and she has told me on a number of occasions that she is genuinely thinking about leaving the country," the former Tory leader revealed.

"She thinks this country is disintegrating into a pathological hatred of Jews.

"The biggest thing we've got to tackle is the excuse that free speech allows people to merge the two issues of Israel and being Jewish, and that we shouldn't tolerate it.

"There's tolerance for free speech but I have to tell you, you can get too much of it sometimes," Sir Iain warned.

"If that message isn't going across, then it damn well should do," he warned.

At 11.16am this morning, officers were first called to Highfield Avenue to reports of a stabbing in Highfield Road, Golders Green.

The suspect attempted to stab police officers and was tasered before being arrested, in what Scotland Yard have now declared a terrorist incident.

Two men, one in his 70s and one in his 30s, were treated at the scene for stab wounds.

Officers from the Met Police confirmed they are working to establish the nationality and background of the suspect.

Specialist officers from Counter-Terrorism Policing are leading the investigation and working with Scotland Yard to establish the full circumstances.

Head of Counter-Terrorism Policing Laurence Taylor said: "Whilst I must stress this investigation is at an early stage, we are working quickly to understand exactly what happened.

"Thank you to those who were in the area at the time and supported the response to this terrible incident."
