Elon Musk and Donald Trump traded personal insults on Thursday

GB News presenter Emily Carver has suggested Britain should seize the opportunity to attract Elon Musk and his businesses to the UK, following the billionaire's dramatic public fallout with US President Donald Trump.

The suggestion comes after Elon Musk and Donald Trump traded personal insults on Thursday, with their previously strong alliance collapsing over disagreements about Trump's tax policies.

Speaking about the dramatic fallout, Emily Carver said: "I think we should woo Elon Musk and have him over to Britain. He can bring all his business here as well on the taxes."

Co-host Tom Harwood agreed: "It would be nice to have billionaires here, but we seem to be driving them away at the moment."

The relationship between Trump and Musk deteriorated dramatically on Thursday, with both men launching personal attacks on social media platforms.

Musk claimed, without providing evidence, that Trump appears in the "Epstein files" - documents relating to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein that include travel logs and guest lists.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

The Tesla CEO's allegations came after days of criticism over Trump's proposed tax legislation, which Musk had opposed.

Trump retaliated on his Truth Social platform, claiming he had asked Musk to leave his White House role and threatening to cut government subsidies and contracts awarded to the billionaire's companies.

Speaking about the fallout, Tom said: "The things Elon Musk said, it's not just his opposition to the so-called big, beautiful bill that increases spending and cuts taxes in the same way some people are describing it as a Liz Truss style bill.

"But Elon Musk now seems unleashed because he's also said that Donald Trump's tariffs are terrible, something he never said while he was a special government employee.

"Now, in his new unleashed phase on his own social media network, Elon Musk says the tariff regime is a disaster and could push America into a recession this year."

Economist Justin Urquhart Stewart said: "Absolutely. Didn't we ever see that film Fantasia with The Sorcerer's Apprentice, where Mickey Mouse starts nicking some of the sorcerer's magic tricks but doesn't really know what he's doing?

"It sounds good in the short term, but then the whole thing turns to custard shortly afterwards.

"That's exactly what Trump has been doing. He thinks he's getting a lot of money coming in and brags about the amount of extra trade money he's getting, without realising the impact that has in terms of demand for goods, not just domestically, but internationally.

"The worrying thing here is the US debt, that US debt's primary buyer is normally China.

"These countries have a sort of symbiotic relationship.

"They may argue like mad, but they need each other. America needs the Chinese to keep buying bonds, and the Chinese need the Americans to keep buying Chinese goods."
