'That is the real reason they have not been made public,' the Tesla owner spat

Elon Musk has claimed that Donald Trump is "in the Epstein files" in an extraordinary attack on his former ally.

In the latest flare-up in a growing row between the President and his former "Doge" chief, Musk blasted on social media on Thursday evening: "Time to drop the really big bomb.

"Donald Trump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!"

He added: "Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out."

Just minutes before the unprecedented attack, Trump suggested he might move to terminate Musk's US Government contracts.

In a swipe at Musk's efficiency drive, the President said: "The easiest way to save money in our budget - billions and billions of dollars, is to terminate Elon’s governmental subsidies and contracts.

"I was always surprised that Biden didn't do it," Trump added.

That in itself followed the Commander-in-Chief's claim that Musk was "wearing thin" and he "went crazy" when Trump asked him to leave.

"Elon was 'wearing thin,' I asked him to leave, I took away his EV mandate that forced everyone to buy electric cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!" the President said.

"Such an obvious lie. So sad," Musk replied.

More than 100 people, including Prince Andrew and Bill Clinton, were named in legal filings linked to notorious paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

The filings, published last year, included the names of victims, friends and associates of both the sex offender and Ghislaine Maxwell.

Being named in these documents does not necessarily indicate any wrongdoing related to Epstein, while the list itself includes many of Epstein's accusers and alleged victims.

Donald Trump's name appears in the filings - though Musk's attack appears to imply that the President had a darker role.

The President had pledged to release them in full on the campaign trail before his re-election last year.

And in February this year, US Attorney General Pam Bondi said: "This Department of Justice is following through on President Trump's commitment to transparency and lifting the veil on the disgusting actions of Jeffrey Epstein and his co-conspirators.

"The first phase of files released today sheds light on Epstein's extensive network and begins to provide the public with long overdue accountability."

But at the start of last month, the White House revealed that there was no "specific timeline" for their release.
