Donald Trump will be arraigned later today in Manhattan in charges relating to hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels

Donald Trump’s arraignment will “play well” for the former US president’s bid to run in the 2024 US election, which he has previously hinted he will run for.

Trump will today be arrested and arraigned after arriving in New York last night.

The unprecedented move is to take place as a result of criminal charges against the former US president.

Trump was indicted by a grand jury following a probe into hush money paid to porn star Stormy Daniels last week.

Speaking to GB News’ Andrew Pierce and Beverley Turner, senior lecturer in politics at Queen Mary University, Dr Richard Johnson, said: “It will probably play pretty well for him in the Republican primary.

“What Trump wants to do in terms of the primary, is two things. One is to keep himself at the centre of attention. And the other is to give the impression that he is being unfairly hounded upon.

“In a sense, this particular charge coming out of Manhattan is going to be interpreted politically exactly in that way.

“It's keeping Trump in the limelight.”
