The exchange quickly became contentious

A fiery confrontation erupted between GB News presenter Martin Daubney and author Kyle Spencer during a discussion about the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The exchange quickly became contentious when the two clashed over the political motivations behind the attack.

Ms Spencer initially characterised the assailant as a "mysterious character" who didn't match expected demographics, noting his Republican family background and history as an enthusiastic firearms user.

She questioned where the attacker had acquired his shooting skills.

Martin immediately challenged Ms Spencer's emphasis on the Republican connection, directing attention to inscriptions found on the weapon's shell casings that read "hey fascist, catch".

He argued these markings provided compelling proof the assault was driven by extreme left-wing ideology.

Ms Spencer responded by suggesting the gunman harboured animosity towards fascists, whilst raising questions about potential anti-gay sentiments linked to unspecified "terrible comments".

She speculated the attacker might have opposed gay culture and drew parallels to Italian anti-fascist movements.

"If you call people fascists long enough, people end up dead," Martin stated during the exchange.

Ms Spencer acknowledged the shooter "clearly did not like Charlie Kirk" and had taken his views to a violent extreme. However, she pivoted the discussion towards America's gun accessibility problem.

"I think the thing that is so dangerous is to have people who are violent and enraged with guns," she said. "We don't want them having guns in our country or anyone's country."

Martin accused Ms Spencer of redirecting the conversation towards firearms issues rather than addressing the shooter's apparent left-wing radicalisation. "You're pulling this round to gun culture, the problem here was the man pulling the trigger," he argued. "He seems motivated by the radical left and you don't seem willing to engage with that."

Ms Spencer disputed his assessment, stating "You don't know what motivated him" before eventually conceding the attack was politically driven. She maintained focus on the shooter's Republican upbringing and exposure to firearms culture within his household.

"His parents were Republican and clearly this man was confused," Ms Spencer explained. "He comes from a family where gun culture was very prevalent. That's a very tragic combination. Tragic."

Martin expressed frustration at what he perceived as Ms Spencer's reluctance to acknowledge evidence of left-wing extremism.

The discussion reached boiling point when Spencer claimed ignorance about the concept of the "radicalised left". Martin responded by citing Antifa as an example of a radical left-wing organisation, which Ms Spencer immediately misrepresented.

She accused Martin of suggesting Antifa was responsible for the assassination of Mr Kirk, prompting a sharp rebuttal from the presenter. "I'm relaying the information that was given to us by the FBI, you don't seem to want to address it, you're ignoring it because it doesn't fit your agenda," Martin stated.

When Ms Spencer persisted with her mischaracterisation, asking "That Antifa did this?", Martin firmly denied making such a claim. Ms Spencer's response of "Thank you for fact-checking yourself" further inflamed tensions.

"You're completely twisting my words," Martin declared before terminating the interview.

The daylight shooting occurred whilst Mr Kirk was discussing social topics, with footage of the incident circulating widely on social media platforms.
