A Danish MEP of has lamented “disgraceful” scenes in European Parliament as lawmakers simply talked through a minute of silence for Charlie Kirk.
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola on Thursday rejected a bid by some factions to hold a moment of reflection for the murdered conservative influencer.
Charlie Weimers, an MEP from the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), first proposed the initiative but attempts for it to actually be carried out in the chamber were drowned out by continued speaking.
Speaking on GB News, Anders Vistisen, a member of the Patriots or Europe Group in the European Parliament, slammed the unsavoury scenes.
Mr Vistisen was shocked by the scenes in the chamber

“I think it’s shocking to see, but it’s daily life in the European Parliament”, he said.
“It’s two-tier. They honoured George Floyd but if it’s a person from the right, they don’t. There’s no appetite to mourn a right-wing figure.”

He spoke about what he witnessed as the dramatic events unfolded in the chamber, explaining: “The President just continued voting. You can see us standing up during what was a voting session.
“There was no mark of respect. They didn’t even allow the one-minute of speaking time for Mr Weimers to be carried out.”

Asked by Martin Daubney if the case is “indicative of the left’s intolerance”, he responded: “There’s no doubt in my mind the most intolerant side is the left.
“It seems like for the left in European Parliament, there is no bigger crime than being born a white male.
“It seems crazy when you think they are so obsessed with racism and other accusations to that degree.”
Mr Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
European lawmakers were not in the mood to pay tribute to the slain campaigner

The 31-year-old was a prominent figure on the political right in America and his death triggered an outpouring of grief with US President Donald Trump among those to pay tribute.
European Parliament rulers appeared keen to shut down any form of tribute in the chamber with Mr Weimers interrupted as he tried to initiate a silent tribute.
The lawmaker read out a statement before trying to use his remaining time to pay tribute to Mr Kirk, but Parliament Vice President chairing the session Katarina Barley halted it.
Her act sparked and outcry from right-wing MEPs who furiously banged desks and shouted as the chamber descended into chaos.
“We have discussed this, and you know the President said no to a minute of silence”, said Ms Barley.
Some factions within European Parliament responded to her shutdown by applauding.
President Metsola had paid tribute on her social media before chaos broke out, saying: “Shocked at the absolutely horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk in Utah today.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and young children - who were the bedrock of his life.”
