The suspect in Charlie Kirk's assassination has been identified as 22-year-old old Utah resident Tyler Robinson.
Robinson was taken into custody accused of killing the conservative political activist who was holding a rally at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
The alleged killer confessed to his father Matt - a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff's Department.
His father contacted authorities and got his son before police could arrest him.
Amber Robinson, his mother, works for Intermountain Support Coordination Services, a company which is contracted by the state of Utah to help disabled people receive care.
Robinson attended Utah State University on a scholarship, insiders have said.
The family's social media shows Robinson, who has two younger brothers, enjoying family vacations and sharing smiling selfies.
They included some celebrating the alleged assassin getting into college.

|Robinson was taken into custody about 11pm on Thursday night.
He lives in a $600,000 six-bedroom home in Washington in Utah roughly 260 miles south of where Kirk was assassinated in Orem.
A motive for the assassination has yet to be released by authorities.
Robinson could face the death penalty if convicted, according to authorities.

|US President Donald Trump announced the arrest on Fox News, saying "someone very close" to the suspect turned him in.
The arrest comes after a manhunt for him stretched more than a day and a half.
Officials had offered a reward of $100,000 for information leading to his capture.
Surveillance footage was released showing a figure on top of a roof jumping from a building and sprinting into a nearby neighbourhood after Mr Kirk was shot from about 200 yards away.
The conservative commentator was hit by a single bullet while speaking to a crowd at the university on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr Kirk was known for his fierce Maga views and engaging debates with college students across the United States.
He collapsed immediately after being shot by the gunfire.
Robinson was found after multiple suspects were incorrectly apprehended on Tuesday.
Initially, a 'person of interest' was said to be in custody in connection with Mr Kirk's shooting, Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced on Wednesday evening.
However, those people were later released, FBI Director Kash Patel said.
"The subject in custody has been released after an interrogation by law enforcement," Mr Patel said in a statement.
"Our investigation continues and we will continue to release information in interest of transparency."
Mr Kirk leaves behind his wife Erika Frantzve, with whom he had two children with.
