New figures show that Britain's trade has improved from its previous ranking of seventh

Trade minister Lord Malcolm Offord has praised Britain post-Brexit, as the country moves up on the ranks for largest trade exporter.

This comes as Brexit Britain has shot up to the fourth largest exporter in the world, despite warnings that international trade would drop off after leaving the EU.

New figures show that Britain has moved from its previous ranking of seventh in 2021 to fourth in 2022.

United Nations data reveals that the UK has overtaken Japan, France and the Netherlands on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) for goods and services exports.

Speaking to GB News Lord Offord said: "We now have data from 2018, the last year before all this bad stuff happened in 2023, we can say that Brexit has had a minimal impact on our trade.

"The biggest impact has been Covid, then the war in Ukraine and then associated inflation, energy prices and interest rates going up.

"That has been the same in Germany, Australia and the US. Brexit has had the least amount of impact.

"If you look at our trade and manufactured goods to the EU, it's exactly the same as the rest of the world.

"So really what's happened in manufacturing has been a massive dislocation in world trade, the biggest dislocations since the Second World War. And it's happened everywhere."
