David Davis claims: "We were right, they were wrong"

Former Brexit Secretary Sir David Davis has said the side supporting Brexit were right about the impacts of leaving the bloc but admitted that the government had not ‘done it brilliantly’.

Speaking on GB News Sir David Davis said: “I think a lot of it's based on just nonstop propaganda. Put aside immigration for a second, all the other things we were told, you’re going to have a million more unemployed. Oh no, actually 150,000 fewer unemployed.

“You’re going to have no exports to Europe. Actually, they’ve grown by 14%. You’ll have no exports generally, but service exports have gone up by 17%, an all-time record.

“Your growth rate is going to be crushed: Actually, we're doing better than Germany, Italy and France. On the all the things that most of the opponents were talking about, we were right, they were wrong.

“And that's despite the fact - remember, I resigned as Brexit Secretary because I thought Theresa May was not doing it properly. So even though we didn't do it brilliantly, which is my view, actually it’s turned out not bad at all.

“It's going to take time [to deregulate], to be frank. Regulations take time to move; they're not going to change dramatically overnight. To put it bluntly, we've got the right to make our own mistakes and at least we can fire the people who do it.”
