Dawn Neesom has clashed with Angus Hanton, the co-founder of The Intergenerational Foundation, over how benefits should be distributed in retirement.

The pair joined Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster on Breakfast to debate whether over 60s in the UK are currently entitled to too many discounts.

Hanton’s foundation aims to “promote intergenerational fairness and protect the interests of younger and future generations across all areas of policy” and he describes himself as a “self-confessed baby boomer”.

He argued: “The baby boomers are the richest generation ever and there’s also an element of entitlement. We’ve come to expect things.

“The free TV licence fortunately has changed, that used to be for anyone over 75 in a household. Now that’s been limited to only those who are on pension benefit, that should be the same for many of these other benefits that my generation get.”

But journalist Dawn Neesom lambasted Hanton for his proposal.

Neesom argued that Hanton neglected the hardship that “baby boomers” had faced in their youth, exclaiming “it wasn’t easy when we were young, we’ve worked hard all our lives, the pension isn’t a benefit it’s something you’ve worked hard for and contributed to all your life. Same with National Insurance, why can’t we treat old people with the respect they deserve?”

Tune in to Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel, Monday-Thursday from 6am, only on GB News.
