Customers could experience payment delays and restricted account access as the bank carries out system upgrades

Barclays has warned customers to expect temporary disruptions to a range of banking services this weekend as it carries out planned maintenance work.

The bank said system upgrades will take place between June 12 and June 14, affecting access to some Barclaycard and banking services at various times.

Customers may experience restricted access to Barclaycard accounts through the app and online servicing during the maintenance period.

Statements and documents will also be unavailable for parts of the weekend.

Barclays apologised for the disruption and said the work is necessary to maintain and improve its services.

The most significant impact is expected on Sunday when some payments and transfers will be affected for several hours overnight.

On Friday, access to Barclaycard accounts through the app and online servicing will be unavailable between 1.30am and 4am.

During this period, customer service teams will also be unable to assist with account management requests or credit card disputes.

On Saturday, statements and documents will be unavailable between 2am and 5am across the Barclays app, online banking and Barclaycard online servicing.

Further disruption is scheduled for Sunday.

Statements and documents will be inaccessible between midnight and 4am.

Barclays also warned that incoming payments received during this seven-hour period will be rejected.

The bank has advised customers expecting payments to arrange for funds to be sent after 7am on Sunday where possible.

Transfers between Barclays accounts and payments to other Barclays customers will continue to operate as normal throughout the maintenance period.

The planned disruption comes shortly after Barclays completed the closure of its dedicated Barclaycard online servicing website on June 10.

Customers are now being directed to manage their accounts through the Barclays or Barclaycard mobile apps instead.

The bank told customers: "Your Barclaycard online servicing is closing on June 10 2026. We understand that a change like this can be unexpected, but this won't affect your account or how you use your card in any way."

A Barclays spokesman said the change reflected the growing number of customers choosing to manage their finances through mobile banking services.

The bank currently serves more than five million customer accounts across the UK.

Customers can continue to apply for new cards and manage existing accounts through the Barclays and Barclaycard apps, by telephone banking or through branch services.

Barclays said customers should check its service updates for the latest information during the maintenance period.
