The bank has confirmed more branch closures in July 2025

Santander is set to close even more bank branches next month as part of the high street financial institution's wider restructuring plans.

Bank branch closures have become the norm in recent years, with consumer champion Which? warning that 6,000 locations have been shut down since 2015.

Some 37 Santander branches are earmarked for closure in July 2025, following the 23 locations that are in the process of being shut down in June.

Banks have cited changing consumer habits and the transition to online banking as being responsible for recent waves of branch closures.

Furthermore, the lender confirmed it is adapted its remaining locations in response to branches being shut down.

This includes introducing reduced hours and moving to "counter-free’£ models, as well as earmarking more branches for closure.

Sam Richardson, the deputy editor of Which? Money, called for banks and building societies to be "accessible" to customers despite closures continuing.

"This milestone of more than 6,000 bank branch closures in just nine years underscores the seismic shift that has taken place in terms of our banking habits and the character of the British high street.

"While some may hardly notice the closure of their local branch as they seamlessly switch to online banking, for others reliant on face-to-face services, the impact can be disastrous.

"It's not about halting closures altogether, but ensuring that essential banking services remain accessible to those who still rely on them. It is crucial that the government prioritises opening more hubs quickly, so that people aren’t left behind."
