Customers have been urged not consume the products due to injury risks

Waitrose has issued an urgent recall of its premium No1 Deeside Mineral Water and No1 Deeside Sparkling Water over fears that glass fragments may be present when customers open the bottles.

The supermarket chain is pulling the 750ml glass bottles from shelves after identifying a potential contamination risk that could cause injury to consumers.

According to the safety warning, the products may contain glass pieces, making them unsafe for consumption.

The recall marks the second glass-related product withdrawal to affect UK shoppers in recent weeks, following a similar incident involving a popular Italian liqueur brand earlier this month.

The still water recall affects six batch codes:

  • NOV 2027 28
  • DEC 2027 01
  • DEC 2027 02
  • DEC 2027 10
  • DEC 2027 11
  • DEC 2027 16

Customers should check their bottles for best before dates of November 2027 or December 2027.

For the sparkling variety, five batch codes have been identified as potentially affected:

  • DEC 2027 01
  • DEC 2027 03
  • DEC 2027 12
  • DEC 2027 15
  • DEC 2027 25

All sparkling water bottles covered by the recall carry December 2027 best-before dates.

Point of sale notices are being displayed across all Waitrose stores stocking these products, informing shoppers about the recall and providing guidance on next steps.

Anyone who has purchased either product is being urged not to consume it under any circumstances.

Instead, customers should take the bottles back to the Waitrose store where they made their purchase to receive a complete refund.

The retailer announced in a statement: "We are recalling the above [products] due to potential glass contamination fears. Do not consume. Package up item. Return the product to your local Waitrose & Partners branch for a refund."

Those seeking further details about the recall can reach Waitrose Customer Care by telephoning 0800 188 884 and selecting Option 4.

The Food Standards Agency issues Product Recall Information Notices to alert both consumers and local authorities when problems arise with food products.

When items pose a safety risk, they may be withdrawn from sale or recalled, with the latter requiring customers to return affected goods.

A Waitrose spokesperson told GB News: “We’re recalling some bottles of our No1 Royal Deeside Mineral Waters as a precaution and are very sorry for the inconvenience. Customers are asked not to use the bottles and to take them back to Waitrose or contact us for a full refund.”

This recall follows closely behind a similar safety alert involving Disaronno Originale, the well-known Italian amaretto liqueur produced by Illva Saronno S.p.A.

The manufacturer discovered earlier in December that "micro-fragments of glass" could be present in certain 700ml bottles owing to a production line fault.

The Food Standards Agency confirmed the alert, stating: "Illva Saronno S.p.A is recalling Disaronno Originale because of the possible presence of small pieces of glass within some bottles of the product, which could make it unsafe to drink."

Seven batch codes were flagged as potentially compromised: 25374, 25375, 25381, 25382, 25435, 25442, and 25444.

The Disaronno recall covers only 700ml bottles bearing EAN code 8001110016303.
