A skin care guru provided a 'helpful starting point' for selecting the perfect shade

When choosing makeup products, there's no hard and fast rule. An outlet for creativity and a point of pride for many, your face can become a perfect canvas for artistic flair.

But, in case you need further guidance, there are a variety of shades that can enhance your eye colour and give your look a pop of colour.

Speaking to GB News, aesthetician Dr Nora Albaldawi said: "Warm copper and rust tones really enhance blue eyes, while plums and cranberry shades tend to complement green eyes beautifully.

"Brown eyes are incredibly versatile and can pull off almost anything, really, but golds, bronzes, and deep blues often look especially striking."

But, even with her various recommendations, the skin care guru concluded: "That said, these aren't rules you have to stick to. They're more like a helpful starting point.

"What really matters is how a shade works with your skin tone, your style, and what you actually feel good wearing," the doctor assured.

Makeup should feel "fun and expressive" without a strict manual, with Dr Albaldawi adding: "If someone with green eyes loves icy silver shadow, or someone with blue eyes wants to go for emerald tones, there's no reason not to."

Makeup brand Elf Cosmetics suggested deploying a colour wheel to identify the eyeshadow shades that would be the "most complementary" to your eye colour.

First, find your eye colour on the wheel and select the shades directly opposite. Then, choose shades from one to two colours in either direction to "really enhance your eyes and make them pop".

And, echoing the same sentiment as Dr Albaldawi, Elf recommended browns, golds and bronzes to highlight warm tones. "Soft golds, purply roses, and deep matte plum eyeshadow colours will help to really define your hazel eyes and enhance your sparkle," the experts declared.

They added that the purples would serve as a "stunning contrast to the brown and green hues typically found in hazel eyes".

Meanwhile, blues are believed to suit warm, particularly orange shades. Elf said that "orangey-gold, shimmery coppers, deep orange-browns" are best for a pop.

For those looking to appear more neutral, shimmery peaches and champagne touches can define azure eyes naturally.

Like blue, green eyes are complemented well by oranges and golds. Even reds can enhance greens, as the shade sits directly opposite red on the colour wheel and can "help your green eyes shimmer and look their best".

Finally, grey eyes - often an "overlooked eye colour" - can appear differently depending on which colour you choose to apply on your lids. For a bluish-grey look, opt for browns, golds and oranges. To capture everyone's attention, try out a dark charcoal smokey eye" for some drama with a shade darker than the hue of your iris.
