Skin care, sleep and diet are all important factors

While there is no way to magically turn back the clock on your appearance, how you care for your skin every day can affect how old you look.

GB News spoke to one woman who found new habits that transformed her skin after it was looking "dry and older than its time".

When she noticed her skin seemingly ageing quickly, Roberta Perry founded ScrubzBody Skin Care and decided to update her daily habits.

As well as a good skin care routine, she claimed lifestyle factors and daily choices help her "make 64 look 54". Habits include getting plenty of sleep, drinking tea and water, and taking collagen supplements.

She told GB News: "I started my skin care business 20 years ago, after my own skin was looking dry and older than its time. Here are my personal tips [for looking 10 years younger].

"I get seven to eight hours of sleep as often as possible, using a smooth pillowcase and putting my hair up in a loose bun, so the hair on my neck does not make me sweat, nor cause hair creases on my face."

While more research is needed, some studies have found a smooth or silk pillowcase may reduce friction, leading to fewer morning creases and a more youthful look.

Perry explained what she puts into her body is also important, favouring tea and water over fizzy drinks, while also supplementing collagen.

She continued: "I drink tea or seltzer or regular water instead of fizzy drinks or sugary drinks. I drink water with lemon for the extra Vitamin C, which helps boost collagen. I take collagen supplements, which help with skin, hair and nails."

Collagen is a protein produced naturally in the body, though natural supplies start to dwindle with age. Because of this, some people choose to supplement it.

Indeed, one study published in the National Library of Medicine found taking hydrolysed collagen reduces wrinkles and improves elasticity over a 90-day period.

Skin care also plays a huge role in Perry's appearance. She added: "I include regular, gentle exfoliation with a sugar and oil-based scrub. This keeps skin rejuvenated and refreshed, and moisturises with oils that complement your own natural sebum oil."

Finally, your attitude and style can go a long way toward how old you come across and, importantly, how old you feel.

Perry continued: "I laugh as often as possible. I don't care about 'laugh lines' because anytime you laugh or see someone laughing, it makes you feel younger inside.

"I don't dress to 'impress', I dress to make me feel good. I love bold accessories added to a black outfit. I love funky earrings. All these things make me feel younger than my age, and therefore, that attitude shows on my face."
