There is an endless supply of anti-ageing products on the market and, while these can be beneficial, it is important to look at other things you do every day that could be ageing you.
Experts have warned some pillowcases could be speeding up signs of ageing on your face by causing "overnight friction and tugging at the skin".
This is according to experts at Aventus Clinic, who said "cotton pillowcases may be ageing your skin", and recommended switching to silk instead.
They added: “Switching to silk or satin can reduce split ends, sleep lines, and future wrinkles."
A silk pillowcase can help prevent wrinkles, experts claimed
GETTYWhile there has been little clinical research into this, skin care specialists have often praised the benefits of switching to a silk pillowcase.
Experts at Dermacare Direct stated: "Unlike other skin-friendly fabrics, such as silk, cotton pillowcases can draw moisture from the face, hair, and scalp.
"If your bedding is 100% Egyptian cotton and you wake up in the morning with creases against your face, neck, and chest then your cotton fabric will be the real culprit.
"Cotton is prone to causing wrinkles and stealing a lot of that expensive moisturiser that you love to apply as the fabric is naturally very absorbent."
When the skin looks dry, fine lines can be more visible. A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology found silk pillowcases could minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by up to 43 per cent, compared to cotton pillowcases.
Another skin care essential that shouldn't be skipped for a more youthful appearance is wearing SPF every day, the experts continued.
They explained that "just because the sun isn't blazing doesn't mean you're safe", adding: "UV rays penetrate clouds and still damage your skin. In fact, up to 80 per cent of UV radiation can pass through cloud cover.

Applying SPF daily is crucial
GETTY"Daily SPF is non-negotiable. It protects against ageing, pigmentation, and even skin cancer - regardless of the weather."
This comes as a doctor named wearing SPF every day as "the most effective anti-ageing step you’re probably skipping".
Dr Nina Aslam said: "UVA radiation accounts for 95 per cent of the sunlight that reaches Earth, and this is the one which triggers the ageing effects associated with tanning.
"UVA radiation damages collagen and elastin in the skin, which is proven to accelerate the signs of ageing, such as fine lines, pigmentation and saggy skin."
